Recap Of The First Annual NBPA Players Awards

The National Basketball Player’s Association hosted their first annual ‘Players Awards’ on Sunday in Las Vegas and last night it aired on BET, though we’re not sure anyone was really watching.

The inaugural award show featured a handful of unique awards including ‘Best Home Court Advantage,’ ‘Hardest To Guard,’ and ‘Player You Secretly Wish Was On Your Team,’ which was won by LeBron James.

Is it any secret that people want LeBron James on their team?

There was also a ‘Gamechanger Award’ which went home with Allen Iverson. Rocking his patented baggy shorts, Iverson began his speech by honoring Michael Jordan saying;

“If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be on this stage,” Iverson said. “I wouldn’t have had the vision to be a basketball player. So I love him for that, and I honor him for that.”

Other award winners on the night include James Harden, who took home the MVP Award, but winning ‘MVP’ honors at a BET televised Players Awards show is like not being selected to your youth all-star team as a kid, but winning the ‘Sportsmanship Award’ instead. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

The ‘Best Defender Award’ went to DeAndre Jordan for the ferocity with which he rejected Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks this off-season.
